TIP 1: (for those that didn't go to school) Using a 180° Protractor means for any Co-ords over 180° requires a little maths, When the Co-Ords are over 180° you simply minus 180 and this will give you heading on the protractor.Įxample 1: Compass shows 235°. Best to simply name each island with it's Co-Ords from the HQ, as I did with my '2nd' naming it '130°'. And should be able to continue to do so for all surrounding islands in the immediate area. If it is your 'HQ', then YES you were succesfull in triangulating the posistion of each island.
Then travel to '3rd' and back check the course to '2nd' and 'HQ' (again, should be the reverse of the co-ords marked) and then travel again from the '3rd' back to what should be 'HQ'. To check your Data you back check your course to 'HQ' (The Co-Ord should be the reverse of where you are on '2nd'). You MAY have now been succesful at triangulation. Where these lines intersect is the location of '3rd' island. The line should intersect the line drawn earlier from your 'HQ'. Once there record and mark '3rd's' Co-ords from '2nd' (Making sure your protractor's 0 and 180 are perfectly North and South on your map). Travel to the marked island, '2nd', making sure you know where to find the other, '3rd', island. Now the fun and possibly time consuming bit.ĥ. Mark 1 of the islands on the circle at the point of it's direction (preferably the closer of the 2, and this will be what we call '2nd') and for the other island (this will be '3rd') draw a straight line leading away from your center, 'HQ' also, for your marked island, name it with the Co-Ords from the center (mine was '130°'). But once we are done, you'll have something of an idea of distances. (Now here is where it falls over a bit, since it's hard to measure distance in the game, you won't be worrying about it so much. Using a compass you find in game, and the protractor in real life, you would (as close as possible) mark the direction to the other 2 islands from 'HQ' (I used a tall rock, probably better to use a tall tree, also the rock was too one side of my island.
The center will be 'HQ' (Best to do this from the island you want as your base).ģ. And also good idea to draw a circle (using the outter egde of the protractor). I made a center for my map with a north south east and west points, using a ruler, square and protractor, drawing straight lines along these points. I choose, the first Island I started on ('St', will be refered to as '3rd') what is now my home island (HQ) and another island near the 2 (i named it '130' but will refere to it as '2nd') (makes it easier if you can travel to each island)Ģ. I specifically went out and bought a geometry set for the game.įor those who don't know (If you don't, then you didn't go to school) a basic small Geometry set contains a 180° protractor (In some cases a 360° is better), a 45°/45°/90° Set Square, a 30°/60°/90° Set Square, a 15cm ruler, and a compass (generally with a pencile)Īnd using an A3 sketch book I started mapping out island locations.ġ. It's actually quite easy, once you find a compass (I was lucky as I found one on my starting island)
